An ongoing series of portraits of artists who themselves work through portraiture. These images reflect the direct and uncluttered paintings by the Italian Renaissance painter Antonello da Messina whose portraits animate the sitter's features, often through a slight smile, suggesting a still but very 'living' presence.

The artists featured work as 'portraitists' in the broadest sense from performance, surrealism and the fantastic to more conventional forms of representation.
